Interface Mode

Build your workflow on the canvas, then use a simple interface with inputs on the left, results on the right, and a Run workflow button.

Overview

Build and connect your workflow in Canvas Mode. Interface Mode gives it a simple front end: inputs on the left, results on the right, and a Run workflow button. Everything stays in sync with the canvas. Switch modes with the Canvas | Interface | Focus control above the canvas, and use Configure to choose which inputs, results and settings appear.

What becomes an input

Blocks that feed the workflow appear as inputs on the left:

  1. Prompt blocks and text blocks with no incoming connection.
  2. Uploaded images, videos, audio, 3D models and doodles with no prompt.
  3. Lists. A List set to dropdown shows one choice; a List set to list lets you pick several items. Manual lists can also be edited from the form.
  4. Options actions, which appear as dropdowns.
  5. Generator blocks that have their own prompt and no text coming in expose that prompt as an input.

Utilities never become inputs. The clip assembler, camera coverage and control Actions like the Iterator and the Prompt Concatenator run in the background as logic. The variator and the camera sheet generate, so they are a step in the middle of a chain and a result at its end. Worlds blocks behave like the other media blocks: they generate from their prompt or from the images or video connected to them, and a finished world with nothing to regenerate from is a fixed input. App and Composer blocks are not part of the interface: they stay on the canvas and pass their content along. Run Workflow blocks are ignored in Interface Mode: the interface always runs the whole workflow.

Every input shows its position number. Drag the number, use the arrows next to it, or focus it and press the arrow keys to change the order of the form. This only changes the interface: the canvas does not move. The order is saved with the canvas.

What becomes a result

  1. Blocks at the end of the chain are results and appear on the right.
  2. Blocks in the middle of the chain appear under Steps.
  3. An image-to-3D block fed by an image is a result with nothing to fill in.
  4. A camera sheet shows its shots as a gallery, a variator shows its variations as text, and a world shows its panorama (open it on the canvas to explore it).
  5. A Webhook block connected to results is an output that delivers them. Send it from its card, or turn on "Send after each run".

Set roles by hand

Every block gets an Interface role: Auto, Input, Logic, or Output. Auto lets Raelume decide from the workflow, as described above. Set a role yourself when you want a block to show up somewhere else in the interface.

You can set a role from:

  1. The block menu.
  2. The multi-select toolbar, to set several blocks at once.
  3. Set up interface, next to the theme toggle. Every block shows its role as a colour, clicking a block selects it, Shift-click or a drag box selects several, and the role bar at the bottom sets them all at once. The canvas tools come back when you press Done or Escape.
  4. The Configure tab inside Interface Mode. The canvas appears alongside the cards. Select a card to locate its block, or select blocks and stacks on the canvas to select their cards. You can pan and zoom while configuring.

Roles are saved with the canvas. Which roles a block accepts depends on what it does:

  1. Text, Image, Video, Audio, 3D and Worlds blocks accept every role.
  2. Prompt, doodle, List and Options blocks are sources: Auto, Input or Logic.
  3. The variator and the camera sheet generate: Auto, Logic or Output.
  4. Webhooks deliver results: Auto or Output.
  5. The clip assembler, camera coverage and control Actions: Auto or Logic.
  6. App and Composer blocks take no role.

When a saved role cannot apply, the Configure tab explains what the interface shows instead.

Pages and links

In Interface Mode a page dropdown sits next to the theme toggle, top right. It switches between the pages of the project and stays in Interface Mode when the destination has one workflow. New pages are created on the canvas. Switching is paused while a run is in progress.

Interface Mode requires one connected workflow per page. If a page has two or more separate connected workflows, opening Interface Mode returns you to Canvas with a guide to separating them. Move each workflow to its own page, then return to Interface Mode once the page has just one workflow. Loose blocks are allowed, and connected branches count as one workflow.

To separate workflows, create a page using the + beside the page name in Canvas Mode. Return to the original page, select every block in one workflow, and choose Move to page from the selection toolbar. Choose Move beside the destination page. Connections between the selected blocks move with them; connections to blocks left behind do not cross pages. Use the page menu to switch between workflows, or ⌘/Ctrl + ←/→ to go to the previous or next page when you are not editing a field.

Watch the short paging guides.

Add #interface to a project link to open it directly in Interface Mode, or #focus for Focus Mode. Changing mode updates the link, so the address bar always holds a shareable link to what you are looking at.

Show model settings

In the Configure tab you can pick which model parameters appear as controls in the form. Changing those controls updates the blocks, so the canvas always reflects what you set in the interface.

Running

  1. Run workflow executes the workflow on the current page through the same runner as the canvas. Pages with multiple separate workflows must be organized before they can run in Interface Mode.
  2. Results and versions land in the blocks, exactly as they would in Canvas Mode.
  3. Use Runs to queue several passes in one go.
  4. A cost estimate is shown before running.
  5. Collaborators see results live.
  6. Viewers can browse results but cannot run the workflow.
  7. Use Run on an individual result card, or in its opened media view, to regenerate just that block once using its current canvas inputs and settings.

Versions

  1. Every run adds a version to each result.
  2. Browse versions inside a result card.
  3. Choose Use this version to make it the active one on the canvas.

Uploading and editing inputs

Edits you make to inputs in Interface Mode write straight to the blocks, so Canvas and Interface always agree.
Upload a new image, change a prompt, or pick a different option and the canvas updates with it.

When the canvas is not a workflow yet

If the canvas does not contain a runnable workflow, Interface Mode shows a guide with steps and starter examples to help you build one.

Tips

  1. Name your blocks so inputs and results are easy to recognise.
  2. Keep each workflow to one clear purpose.
  3. Use Apps when you want to package and share a workflow.

One workflow per page

Keep each interface focused on one workflow. Move separate chains to their own pages, then switch between them from the page menu.

Selecting a connected workflow and moving its blocks together to another page.

Create a page with the + next to the page name. Back on the original page, select all the blocks in one workflow, choose Move to page in the selection toolbar, then Move beside the destination.

Select the whole chain so its connections move together. Branches can stay together, and loose blocks are fine.
