Layers
Non-destructive layer-based editing that preserves your original image while building up complex edits.
Layer-Based Editing
The Image editor uses a layer system that lets you build up complex edits without ever losing your original image. Each edit you make creates a new layer that stacks on top of previous ones.
Layers are non-destructive - you can toggle visibility, reorder, or delete any layer without affecting others.
Layer Types
Image Layers
Import any image created within your workflow as a new layer. This lets you composite multiple generations together, combine elements from different blocks, or build up complex scenes from separate pieces.
Image layers automatically match the lighting and conditions of the scene for seamlessly merged composites.
Region Layers
Add a region to your image and specifically request changes to that area. Paint or draw a selection, then describe what you want - the AI generates content only within that region while preserving everything else.
Region layers automatically match the lighting and conditions of the surrounding scene for seamlessly merged generations.
Annotation Layer
Temporary annotation layers for planning your edits. Draw guides, mark areas, or sketch out ideas before committing to actual changes. Sketching layers don't affect the final output and can be cleared at any time.
Working with Layers
Visibility
Click the eye icon to show or hide any layer. Hidden layers don't affect the final output.
Reordering
Drag layers up or down to change their stacking order. Upper layers cover lower ones.
Deleting
Remove a layer entirely. The original image and other layers remain intact.
Merging
Combine multiple layers into one when you're satisfied with the result.
Layer Panel
The layer panel shows:
- Thumbnail preview of each layer
- Layer name (auto-generated or custom)
- Visibility toggle
- Layer type indicator
Click a layer to select it for editing. Only the selected layer is affected by brush tools.
Pro Tips

- Use region layers for targeted edits - describe exactly what you want in that area
- Sketch out your plan with annotation layers before making permanent changes
- Use layer visibility to compare before/after of specific edits
- Merge layers periodically to keep your project manageable
