Design
Make ads, posts and graphics with vectors and AI. A Design tab is a board of frames where you lay out text, shapes, images and video, generate images in place, and export.
Overview
A Design tab is a board for finished graphics: social posts, stories, banners, slides and posters. Lay out frames with text, shapes, pictures and video, make images with AI right where they go, and export PNG, JPG, SVG, PDF or MP4.
Design is on paid plans. On the Free plan it shows a lock in the New tab menu, and a board you open is read-only.
Add a Design tab
- Click New tab, the + at the end of the tab bar.
- Choose Design.
- On the empty board, pick a size (Post, Story, Landscape, Slide, Poster A3, A4 or A5), click Start from layouts for a ready layout, or press F and drag on the board.
Tools
The toolbar holds Move (V), Hand (H), Frame (F), Text (T), Rectangle (R), Ellipse (O), Polygon, Star, Line (L), Pen (P), Pencil (⇧P) and Comment (C). The zoom menu has zoom to fit (⇧1), zoom to selection (⇧2), 100% (⇧0) and rulers (⇧R).
Useful keys:
- ⌘Z undo, ⌘⇧Z redo
- ⌘A select all, ⌘D duplicate, Delete removes
- ⌘G group, ⇧⌘G ungroup
- ⇧⌘H hide, ⇧⌘L lock
- ⌘] and ⌘[ move forward and back (add ⇧ for front and back)
- Arrows nudge (⇧ for 10), Space to pan
Layers and the inspector
Open Layers in the sidebar to see and reorder everything on the board. The panel on the right shows the selection's settings: frame, auto layout, layout grid, layout, appearance, text, fill, stroke, effects and export. With nothing selected it shows the board, its styles and export.
Components
Select layers and press ⌥⌘K (or Create component in the inspector) to make a component. From a main component choose Create instance. An instance can Reset overrides, Detach instance or Swap component.
Paste SVG
Paste or drop SVG, for example from Figma or Illustrator, and it becomes layers you can edit.
Images and AI
- Drag images and videos from Assets onto the board, or use Add to board in the asset viewer.
- Select a frame or an image and type in the prompt bar under it. Choose what it Makes (Image or Video) and where the Result goes: Replace (in place) or Beside. Press Run. The price shows before you run.
- Every result is a take. Step through takes with Previous take and Next take above the image, or in Takes in the inspector, which also shows the prompt.
- Quick actions above a selected image show each tool with its price, plus Another take, Replace content and Download.
Video
Video layers play in their frame. In the inspector's Video section, set Trim (In and Out), Sound and Loop.
Export
Select one or more frames and use Export in the inspector. Choose PNG, JPG, SVG or PDF, and the scale. Files download and are kept in the project's Assets, named after their frame.
A frame that plays video can also export as MP4: pick the size and click Export video. It is made in the background and saved to Assets, and the notification bell tells you when it is ready.
Comments
Press C and click to pin a comment on a layer or frame; the pin follows it. ⇧C opens the list of comments. Comments also live in the Comments section of the sidebar.
Working together
Everyone in the project sees edits and cursors live. Viewers see the board but cannot edit; they can still comment. A Design tab in a public project is visible to visitors.
